Oh and did I mention?

That our house is haunted? (Even writing that creeps me out.) Yeah. About 3-4 weeks after we bought our house the P.O. killed himself. This house had been in his family for about 60 years. There are three bedrooms upstairs, two of them have remote controlled fan/light combos. The third one has a new fan/light installed by dear hubby, when we moved here a year ago. So you can turn the remote fan/light combos out by either the remote, the pullchain, or the switch on the wall. In the middle of the night the fan and lights will come on, whether or not you have the light and fans turned off by the pullchain and/or switches or not. Doesn't matter. This will happen in the bedroom that does not have the remote fan/light combo as well, but not as often. I've kinda gotten used to it, the kiddos haven't, but I have.
Then the other night I had a terrible dream. Frightening ghosts, scary hallways, sounds silly now, but oh so real in my dream. That night the light came on twice in our room, once in daughter's room, and twice in my son's room, the three year old ended up sleeping with me. When I got up the next morning and came downstairs, things had been moved. And moved weirdly. Party dress up hats my kids played with were all over the house. ALL OVER. I called dear hubby, since he was on his way home from his third shift job, had he moved them before he left and I forgot? Nope he remembered them the same way I did. The dogs were in their kennels at night, so they didn't do it. It just kinda freaks me out. I don't like to talk about it a lot at night or in the house, weird huh?

Okay- that is too weird. I've had a friend say that his house was haunted, but the only thing that would happen would be that the dishtowels hanging on the stove would move, kind of like they were moving in the wind.
Have you had an electrician look at the wiring? Doesn't sound like an electrician could figure out the hats, though...
I'd freak out and install some sort of motion detecting video cam to try and see what was happening.
P.S. I can't leave a comment with the link to my blog because it's not blogger, so I have to use my google id. Just thought you might want to know. Trissa http://4renovators.com/blogs/pigeonpointproject/

That is creepy. Our PO actually died of cancer at a young age IN the house (well, I mean, he might have been in the hospital, I don't know, but he was living here when it happened). The only thing that happens is the stupid light in the living room will occasionally turn on by itself...purely remote-controlled. But I think it's just the batteries are dying. But it was creepy for a while, knowing his history...thankfully, nothing really scary has happened yet.

We've had the electric checked, and it's not it. It's just creepy. It won't happen for a while and then all of sudden it will. I wonder if this time of year is a trigger or something.

it could be environmental...

in my house, the front door kept being unlocked. It's such a habit for me to lock it that I've been known to lock people in - and I'm somewhat OCD about it, so it was freaking me out to walk by and see it unlocked several times during a day. One day I just said out loud "I'm happy to share, but I need this door to stay locked." Ever since then, it's always stayed locked.

You can also ask a local priest to bless the house, if your really freaked about it.

Our house is haunted too. As far as we can tell, there are three ghosts: an old man who we believe to be the builder and original owner of the house, a young woman, his first wife we think, and a little boy/toddler.

They are no where nearly as active as yours. The old man paces the hall (creepy when the footsteps pass the door and no one is there). There is piano that plays from the front parlor (we have no piano), a crying baby in the master bedroom, and a the occasion ghost of a converstation or singing.

We're fine with living with our ghosts, but best of luck to you with yours, he's definately creepy.

Creepy! We have a little cottage built in 1920. I get creeped out pretty easily anyway (chalk it up to too many horror movies when I was younger), but I think we may have issues like yours. I recently put in one of those spiral low energy bulbs and sometimes it just starts blinking on and off. Not all the time and only when my husband is in the room with the lamp it's in. I've been telling myself it does that if the lights been on for awhile. Like it's warning us that it's about to shut off. I've also left it on for him at night when I go to bed and when he gets home it's off, but not burnt out. My bedside lamp has also been known to turn on by itself when I'm the only one sleeping in the room. And I too have the occasional scary dreams about demons and such. Reading your post got me thinking!

we installed a new fan in our new house (master bed) as well. it kept going off in the middle of the night, or the light would turn on and off again and again. We reread the instructions and saw that there is a setting that needs to be switched inside both the fan and the remote (you need to move some pins to the same setting in each part - my husband did this, sorry no more details!) What happens is someone down the street has the same factory remote frequency on their fan/garage door, etc..., so when they use it, it turns on your fan/light as well. doesn't matter what setting you have your fan/light on.

hope that helps!

That may be IT!

Creepy! Hope it turned out to be the neighbors remote...

We try not to think about it too much in our house in case that might "inspire" some spirits to make their presence known. We do know that the last real PO died, but we're not sure if he died in the house or not (he was terminally ill). So far we don't get any weird vibes from the house, so far so good, huh?

I found your blog by following a link from Tiny Old House.

Hauntings make me angry! Before I got married I lived in a 4 unit apartment building in some old buildings on our town's historic square. The other people who lived there told me about freaky things that happened to them and I was NOT having it (I do NOT watch horror movies because my imagination freaks me out for the next 6 months so I definitely wasn't putting up with spooky stuff). I am a Christian and totally believe in prayer so I prayed while walking the perimeter of my apartment and up and down the stairs when I moved in and never had any problems. I don't blame you one little bit for being totally creeped out...I would be!
